Quest
Quest

Quest is a breakthrough authoring tool, built by instructional experts to enhance the creation of interactive training and education applications using an approachable, reusable and extensible object-oriented architecture. Its powerful structure provides the flexibility to move seamlessly between WYSIWYG screens and design levels, and between authoring and run-time views

APPROACHABLE:
  • Increase productivity by mapping out overall structure from a "big picture" perspective
  • Intuitive visual environment enhances the development process for content experts, instructional designers, artists, and authoring experts
  • Work within the frames you are creating, seeing exactly what the end-users will experience
  • Graphical object list is easy to learn and use, helping teams of developers work together, clearly interpreting each other's work
  • FastTracks libraries of pre-built screen layouts, menus, templates, buttons, frame structures, and whole interactions give you a jump start
  • Complete context-sensitive help is available on-line
POWERFUL:
  • Object-oriented, event-driven architecture offers unlimited power and flexibility
  • Any object in Quest® can become a Live Object, to which you assign its own set of capabilities, conditions, and attributes
  • Object properties are modifiable during run-time
  • Hypertext links trigger responses using any Quest® object - video, branching, pop-up windows, etc.
  • C-based language (ANSI) is imbedded in the system; no proprietary scripting language required
  • C Coach aids both novice and expert developers in accessing programming power without entering code
  • Multitasking allows special effects to occur at the same time as animations, video, or audio playback
REUSABLE:
  • Build your own templates and add them to the FastTracks libraries to increase future productivity
  • Create and distribute custom objects, design templates, and modules to enhance productivity and standardization
  • Allows multiple developers to work simultaneously
  • Organize your FastTracks libraries within individualized categories
  • Name-list and thumbnail display of library contents
EXTENSIBLE:
  • Internet data transfer power and file access capabilities for both peer-to-peer and client server communication
  • URL file access allows Quest® titles to read files stored on any web site and transfer and update data in real time
  • Specialized CMI objects manage the storage and retrieval of data according to AICC standards
  • Easy-to-use Extension Manager allows developers to attach Windows DLLs, executables, and C header files directly to the Quest® engine
  • Automated release program simplifies the copying of files for final installation
  • Provides extensive support of Windows API
  • Supports Windows ODBC drivers and databases

Because Quest 7.0 takes advantage of the newest technologies, it requires 32-bit, Windows operating systems only (Windows 95 -- and higher -- and Windows NT). Courses created in Quest 7.0 can only run on 32-bit playback systems.
